Pyre Stories

"You'll get what you deserve, Witch." His hatred oozed out of his voice as he pushed me through the makeshift entrance. My eyes took in nothing of its décor, just the company in which it housed. Overwhelming. It was all so much. Sat before me, was the entire population of my hometown. Old neighbors, classmates, and vendors littered the chairs; all waiting for the verdict, even though they all knew the same as I. That I would soon die.

These are excerpts from books that I have abandoned. Some of them are literal excerpts from the story I had planned other's are just general theme of the books that I once wanted to write and will be in the form of poetry.

Ano nga ba ang love? Love is an unknown feeling towards someone. Love is Priceless raw? Pero bakit ako, I love someone but he can't love be back. Ganoon ba talaga pagdating sa love? If you love someone you won't expect something in return. Dahil desisyon mong mahalin siya, hindi para suklian ang pagmamahal mo sa kanya.

I have reimagined his account from a different perspective - to that of a girl who joins her chieftain in death.

' "BANG!" I snap my eyes open and instinctively jump to my feet. Turning my head in one rapid movement, I am faced with the image of my mother standing ashen in the hallway, her white knuckles plastered on the doorframe. The voices chuckle at the sight of her. She wears dark shadows under her eyes. Her once healthy, glowing skin and sparkling eyes are now an image of the past. Does she know she was meant to be caught in the fire, holding onto her beloved husband and daughters? They were meant to be sitting here, not me.'

"Alright, then. Up and away, guys!" I shouted, already running in the direction of the shore. My toes barely skimmed the water when I jumped, probably a good 2 feet in the air, and unfolded my pure white wings. I pumped them up and down, gaining altitude fast. I looked behind me and saw them doing the same, Nanna with her auburn wings, Zakk with his dark blue, and Tyler with his almost golden color, the same exact color as his hair. I turned back around, involuntarily smiling at the total rush of feeling the cool wind under my wings. Oh, did I forget to mention that we could fly, too?

Rajesh's grandmother had died during the early hours of morning. After performing the last rites Rajesh's father and family were taking the body for cremation. The body was placed in the electric incinerator. There was a small viewing hole to look into. Rajesh's grandmother's sister's son his Chittappa was looking through it and no one else had the courage except Rajesh. He was standing right next to take a look when his Chittappa straightened no he fell backwards screaming "Ayyoo valiyamma (mother's elder sister) is alive" In the pyre a resurrection or what? What happens next? Common sense is not common!!! Then that night in the room where the body was kept for family to view and respect Rajesh and his uncle were sleeping. Rajesh on the floor and uncle on the sofa when someone scratches them on the sole of the feet. Someone taps them on the chest. Ghost of the grandmother being playful. Read the two part story...
