I have reimagined his account from a different perspective - to that of a girl who joins her chieftain in death.

My toes barely skimmed the water when I jumped, probably a good 2 feet in the air, and unfolded my pure white wings. I pumped them up and down, gaining altitude fast. I looked behind me and saw them doing the same, Nanna with her auburn wings, Zakk with his dark blue, and Tyler with his almost golden color, the same exact color as his hair. I turned back around, involuntarily smiling at the total rush of feeling the cool wind under my wings. Oh, did I forget to mention that we could fly, too?

' "BANG!" I snap my eyes open and instinctively jump to my feet. Turning my head in one rapid movement, I am faced with the image of my mother standing ashen in the hallway, her white knuckles plastered on the doorframe. The voices chuckle at the sight of her. She wears dark shadows under her eyes. Her once healthy, glowing skin and sparkling eyes are now an image of the past.
