In my utter happiness, I made a grave error. I hurt someone. I am sure there are faults in our lives; I chose to look beyond this. I forgot what was important in my life; I lost what I truly cherished. I do not think that saying “sorry” will be enough at this point. I can only change by example. So if you are reading this, know that I am moving forward, hopefully for the better. Maybe one day we can laugh about this. I am optimistic.

college has been a huge journey for me. I want to speak about some of the dark places I had to go to, so I can be aware and get back to my original self.

if you could define life by color, life before Him was kinda pale. the days were pretty and pink, but there was no warmth to give it vibrancy or nothing. every day was basically the same and exhaustingly boring. His arrival brought not only new colors and vibrancy, but meaning to the ones i'd already known. i loved it, the months where things were good between us felt like he showed me a new way of life that was totally different from everything. he left, snatching the color back from me. i don't know how i'll find anything like that ever again, so i suppose i'll try suppressing the memories. even if it means i fade to gray.

Kuchu is a word (plural: kuchus), apparently of Swahili origin, that encompasses all LGBTIQ+ identities. The best translation to English would be 'Queer'. Originally a derogatory name for a homosexual, "kuchu" has been reclaimed by some in the LGBTIQ+ community. The stories in this book - spanning across multiple genres and transcending time and space - deliberately center the voices and experiences of femmes, queer women and non-binary folks.
