The life of a young black girl, Nella Asuquo, came to shambles at the age of 6 when her grandmother died. A life of loneliness and terror seemed inevitable at the hands of her abusive family until she discovered a set of magical butterflies only she could talk to. Her secret stayed safe during the 8 years that followed as she would covertly visit the butterflies under a red tree but was soon discovered by a young white girl - Annie who against all odds, became her best friend.

Isabel Montero is the young owner of a renowned Swiss art gallery, she often travels around the world in constant search of objects and collaborates with the prestigious Christie's auction house. A Venetian patrician, Tommaso Van Axel, asks her to evaluate a painting by his ancestor, Lucrezia. The sad lady will appear to her repeatedly in a dream asking for help. Isabel will accept the assignment and will travel to Venice at the height of the carnival, thus finding herself at the center of an adventure that mixes past and present, logic and paranormal, feelings that have an echo in the present and an inexplicable theft of paintings.

La musicalità dei versi di questa raccolta viene accompagnata mano nella mano dall'arte dei quadri dei pittori che più si addicono a raccontare tuttte le sensazioni che toccano il lettore e che toccano il soggetto che nelle poesie narrerà la sua storia.
