His eyebrows raise at that, he'd heard of her family. God, practically everyone in Panem had heard of her family. Because every time a Blessing child had volunteered for the Hunger Games, they didn't just win - they entertained.

The Capitol wanted the districts to choose their own sacrifices. They never expected the answer would haunt them. When District 7 votes in the Briar twins, Asher and Willow are sent into a living forest that changes with the seasons and devours the weak. One twin fights with fury. The other survives by kindness. Neither is willing to become what the Capitol demands. As the arena turns beautiful and brutal, the Games spiral toward a moment the Capitol cannot control and cannot erase. Mags was the victor of the 11th Annual Hunger Games, and at the time of the Quarter Quell, she was one of the few citizens in Panem who was old enough to remember a time before the Hunger Games. Her parents and older sister were killed in the Rebellion when Mags was just five years old, and she had to live most of her life on her own, especially after her victory. I looked to the right of me, to my older brother, Rye. He was older than I was, and even though I knew he wouldn't, I wish he had volunteered for me as Katniss did for Prim. I was not as young as she was, but isn't an older brother or sister's job to protect? Clearly not. As I took my place next to Katniss, I was met with a cold, hard stare, that's right. She hated me, for reasons that were never clarified. I've never been anything but polite, kind, I thought she was the most beautiful girl in our district, no, the most beautiful girl in Panem. Prettier than women of the Capitol, Katniss was a rare natural beauty, with long streaming brown hair, folded nicely into a single braid. Her hand shook mine, hard, distant and as I cracked a small smile, it was not returned, just met with a glare. These next few weeks will be Character Building, that's for sure.

What if Annie Cresta never existed or didn't have Finnick Odair's heart? What if instead of Mags volunteering and Annie gotten chosen, someone else of the victors would've been forced to go through the hunger games again. What if Suzanne Collins' story would've been told from someone else's angle? Changing one tribute can affect the game more than you could think. Could this unwrite the rebellion?

This story is a Hunger games prequel It's my personal interpretation of how one of past Hunger Games' Quarter Quells would have went. In this story you'll read about Synthe an 18 year old district 2 male. I go into detail about his headspace, challenges he faces and my personal favorite : life in District 2. I wrote this story years ago when I was a little younger so now I'm in the process of going back and editing pretty much everything. Reading it again I find myself cringing at a lot, but at the same time it makes me smile seeing what my younger mind added to the great Suzanne Colin's work.
