Ron read about Beth Harmon first in the Daily Prophet the year before he got his Hogwarts letter. Caught up in competition with his siblings like always, he was inspired. He saw himself on the front page. Six years later, he is a fifth year at Hogwarts, and it is the year of the Triwizard chess tournament. The schools competing this year are Hogwarts, Ilvermorny, and Pigfarts.

I just watched Queens Gambit and might be in love with Benny Watts, played by the fabulous Thomas Sangster of course.

ivy's family has a history of famous chess players. she was not greatly familiar with the game until she went to one of her father's tournaments. from only going once, her life changed completely.

This is a slow burn romance between rival chess players. It is similar to the Queen's Gambit in the sense that although chess is a focal aspect of the story readers won't be required to know about chess in order to follow along with the story.

"Chess doesn't always have to be competitive. It can be beautiful." Writing can be, too. Do it but don't do it for the adoration, for the recognition, the accolades. Do it even if you're the only one who will ever read it. Even if you think your writing is shit. Do it because you love it. You're only playing against yourself.
