Immortals are the product of an alien parasite that absorbs itself into their DNA, they will naturally live forever, but can be killed through any means that a regular person could die from. There are immortals representing almost everything, though most have been lost throughout time. There are many known Immortals. They are naturally drawn to each other, as nature wants them to reunite. Though the possession of great abilities draws unwanted attention from people with not-so-good intentions.

Grantaire had never been to Pride and he had never particularly wanted to. He thought the entire concept wasn't one that he agreed with. This opinion wasn't an easy one to have when surrounded by people who were all heavily invested in the Pride spirit.
