A 14 year old girl named Joey is sent to live with her grandparents in rural Tennessee over the summer, while her dad is in a mental facility for depression. She knew it wouldn't be her cup of tea, given that she's from Chicago. And she was right. But past the mosquitos and problematic local rhetoric, there's a girl her age that she connects to. But over time, they become more connected than Joey could have predicted.
I wrote this because I feel like there is so little representation for early teenage queer people, given that I'm one of them myself. There is 0 spice in this story, because they are 14. THEY ARE 14. This story contains mentions and references to suicide, racism, homophobia, and mental health issues. FYI, I'm white, and there are POC in this story, so if my portrayals of them come off as problematic, please let me know, and I will edit the story!
