Daniella Florakis lived with her family. Well, not her blood family. Her mother died when she was barely ten, and she never knew who her father was. Not like that mattered. Her stepfather had been the best parental figure, and later on, her stepsister, Iris. She was content with her life. That is, until Iris suddenly runs off-no explanation, no reason known, no heads up, nothing. Feeling heartbroken and betrayed, Daniella struggles to figure out what to do next. Everything seems to be spiraling out of control until the police called, claiming to have found her family. All of a sudden, she's whisked away to California and put in a house nearly 2,000 miles away from her original home, with six older brothers she didn't even know existed suddenly appearing in her life. Daniella is thrust into a life that appears to be perfect. What complaints should she have as a long-lost heiress? However, she can't help but think something is wrong. Secrets seem to be keeping the family together barely, secrets she isn't privy to, as her brothers clearly showed. But she won't stop. She can't stop. Because these secrets not only involve her, but the truth that she thought she had been living this entire time.

The town of Dogwood in Cross County, North Carolina is a picturesque seaside community with a sordid past swimming in piracy. Four hundred years later, Bertha Rodriguez, romance novelist, resides in Dogwood along with her best friend Camilla Goldstein, Dogwood's chief of police. Every year the town capitalizes on its founders' past with a week long festival in June. The Founders' Festival brings much needed tourism and a break from the monotony of living in a small town. This year will be different, a huge storm hits the coast two weeks before the festival begins and someone uses it as an opportunity for murder. With their town cut off from the rest of civilization, it falls to Bertha and Camilla to solve the murder before the weather clears and the villain is able to make an escape.
