All of that changes, however, when a group of fifty runaways pass by and ask for refuge in their barn. After all, when you are already so safe, why risk it for anything else? But one person stands out to Ben. Another boy, the same age as him, who seems particularly disinterested in his new temporary shelter. Following him leads Ben down a path of sudden mystery and confusion, and as the story unravels, he realizes this mysterious new boy will pull him further and further into the chaos of the war, and pull the both of them so much closer together. Their fates are intertwined in a way neither one of them understands yet.
