New York City, 1899, the newsboys of Lower Manhattan are preparing for a strike that could change New York forever. With the help of a determined reporter Katherine Plumber, the newsies will finally let the world know they've found their voice. But not without the help of Katherine's younger sister. Virginia Pulitzer is nothing like her sister. She's quiet, reserved, and always lingering in the background, most people mistake her silence for shyness. In reality, Virginia simply learned long ago that some voice are just not meant to be heard. Dragged along to meet the newsies by Katherine, Virginia plans to stay out of the way and count the minutes until she can leave. But those plans quickly fall apart when she's met face to face with the bright blue eyes of one Racetrack Higgins. Race is loud, reckless, and impossible to ignore. Yet something about the quiet girl pulls him in, making him want to know more about the girl hidden behind the careful smiles and guarded eyes. The closer they become, the harder it is for Race to keep his feelings hidden. When two worlds collide secrets begin to unravel, loyalties are tested, and Virginia must decide whether to keep hiding in the background - or finally let herself be heard.

The characters go through different challenges, some make it, others don't. They are not for the faint heart. For they will give hope and light, but not without pain and sorrow. That isn't a win for anybody." Race stood up straight and crossed his arms. "Well den, Ise can just go sellin' with ya," Spot said, mimicking Races stance and crossing his arms. "What?" Race said, slightly shocked at what Soot had just stated. "Youse heard me, Ise can go sellin with ya then." "Alright then. I'll see you there tomorrow mornin'." "A'ight," Spot said. Both boys hadn't realized the close proximity between them, and only realized how close they had been once Race turned his back and walked away, Spot doing the same.

Once the Refuge closes after the Newsboy strike, a 17 year old street rat is thrown back onto the streets with no family and no home. Terrified by her past, Clara tries her best to stay hidden from the threats of New York by hiding in the rafters of popular Bowery Theater. Things go south once she's discovered at the wrong place at the wrong time,leading her to a lodge house full of Newsboys.

With her father gone, she has to make up his pay. She has to become a Newsie, but only until her father returns. Jenny, reading to face the day, goes in with her head held high. With some trouble from the Delancey's and the boys finding out she can sing, a lot happens. The worst part of it all, when will her father return?

Short tempered would be a perfect way to describe (Y/N) Kelly, baby sister of Jack Kelly. You try to flirt with her, she'll soak you in the jaw harder then the Delancy's. Now, take a look at Racetrack Higgins - he didn't give a damn, thus he kept going after her after being rejected (and soaked) upon numerous times. Could that ever change?
