You made it clear the day you said you were leaving me that you wanted to, as you put it, get on with your life. I sometimes wonder whether I should have gone after you and insisted and kissed you in the downpour. But I think I'm glad I didn't. I would have made a fool of myself. --- Every collection of "Days" constitutes a chapter. Chapter sizes can vary greatly. The rain fell hard on the two-story house. Dark purple clouds and the night sky hovered over the neighborhood. The rain seemed to target this two-story house the most, hating it for just sitting there, making it look sad and alone despite standing among dozens of houses just like it. A small raindrop fell on the roof of the house. Unlike the other raindrops, this one sat alone, and came to life as slowly as a plant grows. It was standing up. It had grown legs.
