{ Book 1 of UdaiyaalUdaiyaar trilogy } { Previously titled Ennavale } "What connection does my marriage have with the throne of the Chozhas?" -- Arulmozhi Varman, the youngest son of Sundara Chozhar and Vanavan Mahadevi, was brought up by all his elders with great delight. Now in Eezham, he was focused on his ability to be a Commander in chief to his troops, and motivate them to win their war against King Mahindan. Deal with different hands, he is caught in the hope of his elder sister Kundavai, and the wish of the elders for his marriage with the Kodumbalur Princess, about whom he was confused. Vanathi, the said Princess, had lost her heart to Arulmozhi Varman, hailed as Ponniyin Selvan, the moment she had met him unintentionally by the banks of Mother Ponni, helping her rescue little birds. She is in happy daydreams and sad reality, when sudden conspiracies crash into her life, turning it topsy turvy unexpectedly. How do Ponniyin Selvan and the Kodumbalur Princess come together? An AU of sorts combining Ponniyin Selvan the novel, Ponniyin Selvan the movies, history and my own imagination. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. Cover by @JishnuPranaa

The Making of an Emperor As a young prince, Arulmozhi Varman joined his father and generals on expeditions across southern Tamil Nadu. There, he observed the discipline of the Kaikkolapperumbadai, the Chola standing army. Those early lessons taught him that power lay not just in bravery, but in precision and organization-principles that would later define his reign. When Rajaraja ascended the throne in 985 CE, the empire faced threats on all sides. To the west, the Cheras dominated the Arabian Sea trade. To the south, the Pandyas were rebelling. To the north, the Chalukyas watched for weakness. Rajaraja's approach was calm and calculated-he would strengthen his navy, fortify his administration, and expand with purpose. trans: Empress Rajaraja Chola, before he was called that, was named Arulmozhivarman. Before she came to be known as Lokamahadevi, the queen of all worlds, her name was Bhagyalakshmi. Perarasi is the story of a girl who became one, and the love story lost to time of two souls whose names, those which history knew them by, were never their own, only one of many things each had lost yet had brought them together. In which a kovilil paadum pen (girl who sings at a temple) and a pattatthu ilavarasar (crown prince) are unaware that the mistakes they make by loving each other have been made many times before, and the outcomes have never been happy. Except this time, their marriage is arranged and, in some ways, unwanted. (have taken some historical liberty [especially w/ names]; more closely based on the events and aftermaths of Ponniyin Selvan, the literary magnum opus!)

This novel elaborates an alternate timeline where Athirajendra Cholan was succeeded by Vijayaraja Cholan, son of Rajendra Cholan II instead of Kulottunga Cholan.
