This is the story of an exile that went unrecorded in the grander scheme that Ramayan is all about. Bharath had undertaken a vow of penance for the duration of his brother's absence. He and Mandvi stayed at Nandigram those 14 years, the beginning and end of which have been sung numerous times. But what was the in-between like? What were Bharath and Mandvi beyond their identity as Ram's brother and Sita's sister? What was their bond like? This story is a humble attempt at imagining the answers to these questions.

"Because he is Ram's shadow... and she is Sita's reflection... One is the personification of dutifulness and other one is the epitome of sacrifice. What else in the world can be comparable with this divine bond, which has crossed every limit of human emotions. The world needs to bow down infront of this nonpareil love of Lakshman... and Lakshman priya, Urmila." ❤︎ L͟a͟k͟s͟h͟m͟a͟n͟ P͟r͟i͟y͟a͟ ❤︎ Often in Ramayana we hear and see the immortal love of Shri Ram and Mata Sita. But forget such a great love story without which, the completion of Ramayana was impossible. That story... which taught the world about the balance of love and duty. That love... which made the world realize the true meaning of sacrifices. That sacrifice... which made both of those lovers the purest. And that was the divine love story of Shri Lakshman and Mata Urmila. How was this great love after all? The one who accepted the pain of separation like nectars of paradise. And what was its purpose? By Lord Ram's will, why don't you try ? ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• The work here is a figment of my imagination. Do not kindly believe all of those blindly. And believe me when I say this , the Mahabharat enthusiast and the author in me contradicted a lot while writing this .

Vālmīki's Rāmāyaṇa inspired the stories in this collection to answer questions such as these: What would Rāma have thought about a monument to mark his janmabhūmi? Why did Rāma tell Bharata that the kingdom was Kaikeyī's bride-price? How did Hanumat get the idea that Rāvaṇa never abducted any unwilling or married woman before Sītā? Why did the luminous herbs disappear when Hanumat came for them? At what age were Rāma and Sītā exiled? Did Hanumat witness Dhānyamālinī or Mandodarī distracting Rāvaṇa from Sītā? How could Mahodara and Mahāpārśva return to battle after they were slain? The title is Saṃskṛta and means "Recognize Ayodhyā In The Wilderness," which was part of Sumitrā's advice to Lakṣmaṇa in Vālmīki's Rāmāyaṇa. The first six chapters are Drabbles of exactly 100 words, and the next eight chapters are Microtales of 15 words. Much later, I added another Drabble as the fifteenth chapter. Each story is based on Vālmīki's Rāmāyaṇa, and supported with citations from the text. Cover Credit: average-student of India Forums, using images from Chitra Ramayana by Balasaheb Pant Pratinidhi.
