After the events in Weird Fantasy, Cassandra seeks out Varian and asks him out for a coffee - but Varian is having a hard time dealing with his feelings and messed up badly - or so he thought. Or Varian is incredulous when Cass asks him out for a coffee as he tries to come to terms with his feelings for her.

Varian grew up as an esteemed young and dangerous soldier pledged with the oath of the brotherhood to forever protect the moonstone from the clutches of evil. When king Edmund entrusts the young warrior to spy on the traveling caravan, supposably trying to follow the back rocks back to the kingdom of darkness, he was ready to take on the task. But when all his training and sworn ideals of the brotherhood are thrown out the window, he must find himself to face the perils ahead. (PS: the brotherhood in this au are much stricter than in cannon and the moonstone is much stronger

Warning- contains minor angst I was wondering what would happen if Quirin hadn't pushed Varian out of the way of the amber in time, and created this AU, where Varians arm and leg are encased in the Amber instead, however instead of it fully swallowing him, as it did to Quirin in canon, His father cuts his encased arm and leg off in a last-ditch attempt to save his son. Varian goes on to create mechanical replacements and, since he didn't fall to evil, as in canon, he accompanies the group in season two and the story is drastically different to canon. This story/AU takes place in my modified Disney-verse instead my xreader one.
