Waterpaw is now a medicine cat, but she faces a lot of questions that remain unanswered. StarClan keeps telling her the same things, but are unresponsive to other questions. Unluckily, one of their desires is churned like mud beneath a badger's paws: there's already a medicine cat apprentice when Ravenpaw earns her apprentice name. This forms a fury that pierces her heart endlessly, and not even Shadowpaw can calm it. On Shadowpaw's side, she is indeed training to be the greatest warrior CedarClan ever saw. But a dark cat visits her dreams, promising revenge and ambitions that are many for Shadowpaw to bear, and a whole lod of secrets about her family that keep her awake at night. One cold, leaf-bare night a small black tomcat trots over blankets of pure white snow. His pelt was darker than the night. The fleck on his chest and the tip of his tail was whiter than the snow. The tomcat sniffed the air, his fur fluffing up in the harsh winds that were attacking him like a fox. He decided to walk back to the barn nearby where another tom lived. Though the cat was a larger tom, splotches black as a yew branch and white splotches white as a cloud. They were very close as well. The black tom ran quickly back to the barn to be greeted by the warmth of the barn and the kindness of his friend. Happiness strung at his beating heart as he lay next to the other tom and they fell asleep with the bigger tomcat lapping at the others head...

This AU takes place when Firestar, Graystripe, and Ravenpaw are trying to escape RiverClan/TigerClan territory to save Mistyfoot, Featherpaw, and Stormpaw from the threat of being killed for their half-Clan blood. In canon, a ThunderClan patrol consisting of Sandstorm, Cloudtail, and Thornclaw arrives just in time to help hold off the advancing ShadowClan warriors at the stepping-stones, allowing the three TigerClan prisoners to escape into ThunderClan and be brought in to be safe from anymore threats. But what if the ThunderClan was too late to come, or didn't come at all? Why Ravenpaw ran away from the Clans in the first place is the very thing that happens.
