Step into a story that gives you a glimpse of the Great Depression of 1929-1939, one of the worst economic depressions in history. You'll be viewing this tragic part of humanity's past through the eyes of 13-year-old orphan, Cedric, whose mother and only caretaker passes from the scarlet fever. Now finding himself alone in the harsh reality of 1932, he takes to the streets, doing all he can to survive while trying to make sense of the world around him. Through his strife he struggles to survive, becoming hardened to cope with his cold existence. He improvises, adapts, and overcomes.
While this isn't based on a true story, the events within the story are as true to realism as I can manage while still presenting an interesting tale. I did my utmost to encapsulate just how bad the Great Depression was. With it being a short story, a lot of possible in-depth views on the subject weren't possible. Still hopefully this bite-sized tail and give you an interesting perspective on economic depressions, morals, and how survival still plays into the lives we live.
