To escape a torrential downpour and the suffocating monotony of senior year, an eighteen-year-old girl makes a reckless choice: skip AP Chem, board a bus, and disappear into the chaotic heart of New York City.
At first, the city offers the perfect getaway. The rain is gone, replaced by blinding sunshine, sweltering heat, and the deafening rush of Midtown Manhattan. Better yet, she's not alone. Kai is infuriatingly smug, dangerously observant, and navigating the crowded streets beside her, bringing a quiet, electric tension that makes the afternoon feel flawlessly normal.
But it's only an illusion.
It starts with fleeting, impossible details. A reflection in a puddle that shows a raging storm under a clear blue sky. A shadow that moves a fraction of a second too late. The sun-drenched city isn't a refuge; it's an invisible, suffocating maze. As the laws of physics slowly begin to break down, her reality fractures along with them. The devastating truth behind who-or what-is pulling the strings is far darker than a simple trick of the eye.
Perfection is an illusion. And this one is about to shatter.
A/N:
They say that out of absolute boredom, your creativity will unfold-and this psychological spiral is exactly where my mind wandered. I wanted to build a world here where the possibilities are endless and the rules of reality are meant to be broken.
Enjoy the sunshine and the banter with Kai while it lasts. The glitches are coming.
