Before you turn the first page, I need you to understand something: this is not a story I created just to entertain you. This is me. These pages hold pieces of my mind, my pain, my anger, my depression, my confusion, my love, my betrayal, and the moments when I felt like the people I cared about most could walk away without ever looking back.
Some parts of this journey may hurt you. Some may concern you. Some may make you angry because you recognize yourself in the words. You might read something and think, I've felt that before. You may even have to close the book for a minute because certain pages hit somewhere you weren't expecting.
I'm going to talk about what it feels like to be hurt by people you trusted, used by people you would have done anything for, lied to by people who looked you directly in the eyes, and abandoned when all you wanted was somebody to stay. I'm going to talk about the thoughts that show up when everything gets quiet. The battles nobody sees. The times you smile around everybody else while your mind is somewhere completely different.
This book isn't written from the top of the stairs.
It's written while walking down them.
Every step takes you deeper into my mind. Some steps lead to memories. Some lead to anger. Some lead to people I wish I could forget. Some lead to questions I still don't have answers for. And some lead to parts of myself that I'm still trying to understand.
And if you make it all the way to the end-through the uncomfortable pages, the painful memories, the anger, the darkness, and everything I normally keep buried-that proves something about you too.
It proves you were willing to stay when things got difficult.
It proves you were willing to listen.
It proves you were strong enough to keep walking.
So if you're ready...
Welcome to my mind.
Welcome to the pain.
Welcome to the memories.
Welcome to the journey down the stairs.
