Everything seems to be going wrong for Kyla. Her sister Olivia has been missing for years and the police are completely stumped. Her foster parents are struggling to continue with their lives, and her friends are starting to move into their own futures. She doesn't even know what to do. Then she meets Willow, a girl who has problems of her own. Willow has a weak body that can't do much exercise besides walking around. Willow's heart is strong, though. She is on a journey entirely different than Kyla's, but the two begin to walk side by side. And it changes everything.

Sixteen-year old Dante Evadoni is a normal boy with a normal life - he's in eleventh grade, he has a fair few friends, he's not popular and he's quiet - and a problem that has followed him for two years: he's heels over head in love with a girl he can't seem to get over. Seventeen-year old Carolynn Quirox is in the same grade level as Dante, in the same circle of friends, although a bit apart from him. For two years, she has been avoiding Dante in an attempt to make him forget about her. She has never felt anything for Dante, believing that he isn't the one. Then, after some practices and one dance during a party, everything turns upside down. Just as Dante feels that his life has finally begun to go uphill, he is plagued by a memory that compels him to consider the way things are and how things should be.
