    Hanahaki disease: The term hanahaki comes from the Japanese words hana (花), which means "flower", and hakimasu (吐きます), which means "to throw up". It is born from unrequited love where the victim regurgitates and coughs up flower petals. The victim's lungs fill with flowers and roots grow in the respiratory system. The illness can only be cured through surgical removal of the flowers, however any existing romantic feelings are also removed with the infection. -------------------------- Her hands claw her neck, strong enough to leave in their vain red marks and bruised skin. The thing that started as an itch in the back of her throat makes itself known as something more. Something sharp digs into the inside of her throat as she struggles to breathe. Raising to her feet, she run towards the toilet and throws up. The clock ticks 3am. The sounds of the clock in the empty apartment feels too loud. It echoes against the walls. Her forehead glistens, Sweat tickles down her forehead as she rests her head against the toilet. Mustering up strength she lifts her head slightly and leans against the wall. She expected herself to see a disgusting pile of vomit in the toilet bowl, instead find herself staring at something that takes her breath away. Red camellias. Her breath hitches as she realised what it meant. Goosebumps arise on her skin at the knowledge of what had just happened. She had just coughed up flowers, red camellias. Flowers. It meant only one thing. She was in love with someone who didn't love her back.
