I needed a job. I didn't expect to find an arcade I'd never noticed before-sitting between two houses on a stretch of road I've driven down my whole life. The neon sign flickered FLOYD'S, buzzing like it hadn't been maintained in years. The Mario mural on the side was chipped, like something had clawed at it. And the sports car out front? It hadn't moved in decades. The manager hired me immediately. No interview. No questions. Just a clipboard with a contract and a warning: Don't turn off the Frogger machine. Don't ask about Floyd. And whatever you do... don't look at the man in the leather jacket for too long. At first, I thought it was some kind of joke. Just another rundown arcade clinging to life. But then the machines started playing themselves. The customers never blinked. And at night, I swear I heard the mascot laughing from the back room-where the animatronics were supposed to be unplugged. I should quit. But the last guy who did? His high score is still flashing on the leaderboard. And no one remembers his name.
