Since the death of her mother and stepfather, Nona has become many things she never imagined she'd be: a mother figure to four boys, an overworked seamstress hoping to open her own shop one day, and an oddity to her town, none of whom can understand why she's done any of the things she has in the past few years. One thing Nona has never been is a believer. There have always been mad legends circulating in the surrounding towns about the dangers of the Werewood Forest and the horrible shapeshifting beasts said to live within it. Nona isn't scared of fairy stories. She ventures into the woods regularly to take supplies to her reclusive grandmother, and nothing strange has ever happened. That is until the day Nona discovers an injured wolf deep in the woods, and takes measures to save its life. Now Nona can feel eyes on her all over town, the presence of someone, or something, watching her. When this presence becomes a gentle giant of a man who says he wants to protect her from the (non-metaphorical) jackals at her door, Nona isn't sure what to think. But she knows nothing will ever be the same again. (This is Book 3 in the Kingdoms of the Kin series, but can be read as a standalone. Characters from Book 2 will appear in the epilogue.)
