Reggaeton Stories

El término urbano surgió en los Estados Unidos para nombrar, en general, la música popular contemporánea de raíces afroamericanas. Inicialmente -durante los años 1980-, géneros como el soul, el rhythm and blues, el jazz y el funk formaban parte de esta denominación. Más adelante, en los años 1990, la cultura hip hop -constituida por cuatro componentes: el rap (canto), el djing (música), el breaking (baile) y el graffiti (pintura)- tuvo una gran incidencia sobre esta corriente. En la actualidad, dentro de la música urbana se han manifestado nuevos géneros, como el reggaeton y el trap. El reggaeton es un género musical bailable nacido en Puerto Rico, derivado del reggae en español proveniente de Panamá e influenciado por elementos del hip hop. Su nombre responde a la fusión de la palabra reggae con el sufijo aumentativo -ón y fue acuñado en 1988 por el productor panameño Michael Ellis. Una de las principales características de este género es su capacidad de adaptación, ya que su rítmica puede fusionarse con otros géneros, como la salsa o el vallenato, lo que ha traído como consecuencia el surgimiento del pop urbano. Zoraida María Ceballos Ríos es una experta DJ que tiene preferencia por el género urbano, específicamente por el reggaeton.
