Ainsley Baker, a sophomore at Los Feliz High School, and her two best friends, Julie Molina and Flynn, had been there for each other for as long as they could remember. Although Ainsley was never alone with her two best friends, she always felt lonely. She had witnessed so much loss in her life recently, with Julie's mom passing away this past year, and Ainsley's dad passing away about a year before Julie's mom. It didn't take Ainsley's mom, Delilah, very long to move on from Ainsley's dad though. Before she knew it, Ainsley's mom was dating somebody new, and they were moving in with her mom's new "person". Ainsley hated how quickly her mom had moved on, which caused frequent fights and arguments between Ainsley and her mom, as well as between Ainsley and her mom's new boyfriend, Trevor. Trevor had a daughter, named Carrie, who used to be best friends with Ainsley, Julie, and Flynn, but then Trevor became famous, and Carrie became "too good for them". The band is made up of Luke Patterson, Reggie Peters, Bobby (Wilson?) her brother Alex Mercer, and Emerson were all about to perform at the Orpheum theatre when they ate some bad street dogs and everything changed.

After returning home after a few weeks, Reggie Peters and his two band mates, who are also his close friends, met a musician called Julie who had lost her mother. The group shared a wonderful time making music together. Reggie, Alex, and Luke are all in the dark about what their mission as ghosts is, that is until they encounter Julie's longest-time friend, Caitronia Solace. After losing both of her parents, Julie and her family takes Caitronia in. Seeing how much she is hurting, Reggie takes it upon himself to let Caitronia know that he's there for her, even if she can't see him.
