Cubah returns from London to Kingston in the summer of 1988. She meets an ancestor who takes her on a spiritual journey back to Ghana in 1690. The story is written in three main parts which focuses on a journey from Ghana to Jamaica and from Jamaica to the House of Commons, in Westminster, London. She experiences the loves, wars, treaties and many a controversy between the maroons and planters on the island at the time. The story is a meandering tale set in her home town. Cubah meets the overseer and we see her empathise with him as he struggles with his life on the Vineyard. It is a story that celebrates the island of Jamaica in its 50th Anniversary and as well as all the recent olympic successes of Usain Bolt, it is a reminder of great Jamaicans and humble beginnings like Bob Marley and others. If these people interest you and you want to find out what makes them the successes they are and were, then delve into this story and by the end you will discover what makes the island so special. Of course, the story has a spectacular ending. Sunset on the Horizon meanders through time, space and events. Why not read and let me know your views by leaving me a comment below....H M Hanlan
