Enter Sang Summers, physically and mentally abused, underdeveloped, petrified teenager... and the long lost daughter of two of the most powerful mutants known: Scott Summers and Jean Grey, current leader of Utopia and dead host of the Phoenix Force. Sang is the first mutant to develop powers in four years, the Messiah the remaining mutant race had long awaited to save them from the brink of extinction. And their hypothesis seems to be proven true, as nine lights appear on Cerebra, nine new mutants that Sang will have to save from themselves... nine new mutants that can hopefully save Sang Summers. It's been almost a month and a half since Valdis and Steve had the big fight that made them take a break longer than intended. A proper story starts at the beginning. But this isn't a proper story, this is *my* story. And the beginning was a load of -------- anyway. The short of it is people fought, the world almost ended (or did end?), and a noble person died to maybe set it right. That story has a lot of boring bits, garish angry men shouting at each other and generally missing the point, and it has some interesting bits, namely this bomb-ass teenager dying to stave off the end of the world. My contribution, well after *that* story, is much more interesting (and much sexier) than all of that. I suppose you should know the rough setting: a world in ruins, barely functional, ravaged by mutant atrocity, everyone picking up the broken bits in their own broken way. The world had hinged to crisis and somehow survived; the mood was cautiously optimistic and grimly fatalist. There was a last X-man and a last Brother (actually, a sister; preach!), who had both somehow survived the almost-end of everything. My story starts (well, gets interesting) looking for that last X-man. He had something that I wanted...

He was cute, very cute. What's the harm in meeting him? A lot. When Lauren Binns decided to watch a street hustler perform with his cards, she didn't think anything of it. But because of that meeting, she's kidnapped, informed that he's a dangerous mutant known as Gambit, and is threatened with her life to help track him down. Gambit ends up saving her and she goes on the run with him; after hearing about Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters-a safe haven for mutants-they head to New York, hoping to find shelter there.
