Voltando a Forks, Charlie, matricula a filha na "Forks High School", onde no dia anterior ao primeiro dia de aulas, antes de sair de casa, Bella conhece Billy Black, colega do seu pai da esquadra da polícia local e o seu filho Jacob, que lhe conta muitas histórias e lendas sobre a família Cullen, que é uma família de vampiros que nunca atacou ninguém, dizendo no liceu que são "vegetarianos". Depois das lendas e histórias ouvidas sobre da família Cullen, Bella decide ir à biblioteca local para investigar um pouco mais acerca desta misteriosa família, em que os jovens, Edward, Emmett, Jasper, Rosalie e Alice são sobrenaturalmente bonitos!
