Rennie finds her self in a musical production playing as the lead role and Rennies love interest plays the lead roles love interest. But after it's over a boy asks her out and she doesn't like him but as a pushover she says yes and Alex and Rennie meet again in adulthood.

Something inside of me changed that morning and it was worrying.
