In a growing city, one must consider oneself to be growing too, no? Yet what happens when you are utterly bound by the so called constrictions forged by your own society? If your own family hate you to the point that you dead face would bring nothing but indifference, why live? But I do. My tale may be considered to be that of woe or wars, yet to me, it is my life and circumstances have brought me to accept it. But I fight. I fight for him, for me, for us. I fight because I can, because I have to. I fight to prove, that my skin colour is not all that there is to me. Don't I have the right to fall in love?

This is a dystopian novel about people who can't fall in love, only forced to have children due to the government. There is no marriage, and you can't keep your children, until Annabeth and Blake come along. The government selects a man and a woman every month to get together and have a baby. Then, after 9 months, the woman gives birth to the child. Then, she gives the child to the government and the government assigns a care giver to the child.
