She had not cried in four years. She had been fine. Fine was enough. And then Kampala called. Rosa Nakimuli has built a perfectly fine life in New York. Good job. Nice apartment. A deeply unsympathetic cat named Parliament. Everything she needs and nothing she actually wants. When her mother ends up in hospital back in Kampala - Rosa drops everything and boards the first flight home. What she does not expect is to walk out of Entebbe Airport and straight into the one person she spent eleven years successfully not thinking about. David Ssekandi left without explanation. Without goodbye. Without giving her the conversation she deserved. Now he is back. So is she. And Kampala - with its jacaranda trees and mandazi breakfasts and mothers who manipulate nurses into making emergency phone calls - is doing everything in its power to remind Rosa of everything she walked away from. Including herself. Some people leave your life so completely you forget what it felt like when they were in it. And then one ordinary Tuesday - they come back. And you remember everything.

Set against the golden sunsets and wild hills of the Bahamian island of Andros, "Castle on the Hills" follows the life of Kai Rolle, a boy who once ruled the countryside with his brother and a tight-knit group of childhood friends. At the heart of their youth stood a forgotten stone ruin they called the castle-a place of first kisses, deep pacts, wild parties, and whispered dreams. As the years pass, the group is fractured by loss, mistakes, and time. One moves away, another overdoses, a brother ends up in jail, and Kai himself escapes the island, chasing a future that never quite fills the hole he left behind. Fifteen years later, now grown and searching for meaning, Kai returns home-driving the same winding roads, hearing the same songs, and haunted by everything he thought he'd left behind. What begins as a nostalgic visit turns into a journey of reconnection. Reuniting with old friends, confronting long-buried wounds, and revisiting the castle that raised them all, Kai is forced to face who he was, who he lost, and who he might still become. "Castle on the Hills" is a deeply emotional, sun-soaked coming-of-age tale about friendship, memory, heartbreak, and the lasting power of the places we call home.
