No matter the place, the time, or the bloodline-there is always a bastard child who changes history. My name is Destin-Marie de Gouze, but before the world acknowledged the blood of my father, I was simply Destin Gouze. I am the illegitimate daughter of Gouze Pierre, a French nobleman, and a woman enslaved in Saint-Domingue, a French colony on the island of Hispaniola. In 1768, my father arrived in Saint-Domingue for the first time, staying for a mere six months before returning to France. He made many more trips back and forth, each time torn between his wife and his lover. Over time, despite his shipmates' opinions, he fell in love with my mother. 1770 was the year I was born, but my arrival was no blessing to the world around me. My father's affections for my mother were fleeting in the eyes of society. By the time I was 8 years old, my father left Saint-Domingue for what I believed was the last time. He returned to his other family in France, leaving me behind. For three long years, I lived in the shadows of his absence, until 1774, when, at the age of 11, he came back. This time, he took me with him-my life forever changed as I crossed the sea to a new world, to a new family I had never known. Upon my arrival, I met the half-sister Marie Gouze-and my stepmother. My existence, once dismissed in Saint-Domingue, was now a complication in France, one that forced me to find a place in a world that never intended for me to belong. But history is shaped by the forgotten, and revolution is a force that no one can ignore. In 1789, the French Revolution began, and everything would change. I only hope I live long enough to witness it. _______________________________________ Author's Note: A rewriting of my original story.

In Graycott, the majority of people have a genetic mutation which gives them a physical attribute of an animal. Some have wings, some have tails, some have horns. However, whatever animal you share a trait with, you also share similar brain functions and habits with. Eli Floran, a 17 year old Raven-traited boy, is no different. Excitable and bubbly, Eli shares many habits with that of a raven. Such as collecting objects he finds. However, Eli also is the head of change. The Ravens of the Valley: a gang run by Eli that strives for the better treatment of the nonevolved, otherwise known as humans. Humans, now the minority to the evolved, have been pushed to the bottom of the food chain. Used as servants and forced into hard labour or commonly arrested for just being human, humans have been mistreated for centuries. Eli wishes to change this. With the help of his gang and allies, Eli will force this way of life to end. Through a revolution, he will force the government to it's knees. At least, that's what he hopes. --- "All we're asking for is equal treatment! And if they won't listen to peace, they'll go deaf by violence! We are declaring war today against the corruption of our government! We are demanding, not asking, to be taken seriously! These riots will spread like the fires we've lit today, and they will light the way to a better future for all! So we call for Zander Storms to declare change now, or we will bury him under the floorboards of a new age!"

To XJ158, We all have the ability to go beyond our expectations to do something good for our world. Every now and then, one of us realizes this and does this thing we recognize as the word impossible. But what if, we all did that, all at the same time? What if we all took a minute out of our day to help the person to our right? Gave them what they most needed in life. I know what you're thinking. That word again, impossible. Well it isn't. My wife and I have been working relentlessly for the past 25 years to craft and remodel a drug my great-grandfather dreamt up and brought into existence 175 years ago. This drug, has the ability to remodel our way of life and end our biggest problem, since the dawn of Man. Sin. In his lab, in what was once known as, Atlanta, he created the P.A.T.L drug. The P.A.T.L drug, also known as the Pre-frontal Area Temporal Lobe drug, targets these two areas of the brain and their main functions: Concentration, Emotional traits, Inhibition, Judgement, Elaboration of thought, Personality, Auditory reception, expressed behavior, receptive speech, memory, and information retrieval. It manipulates these functions of the brain to do whatever it is we asks of it. After nearly 200 years, we have created what we need in order to rid the world of Sin. While my wife and I hold fiscal responsibility of all things relating to this project, we ask of your corporation, the permission to utilize your grounds, and properties to administer it to the public. I understand if you are a bit hesitant to sign onto this project, however I think that you as a person with money and power have an obligation to those who are less fortunate. Please respond to this letter within the next 3 days. As of now time is of the essence. Sincerely, Jax Mase

This is a parallel story following the investigation by two present day graduate students of papers left behind by a patriot working undercover for Washington during the Revolutionary War. While the conversations are necessarily constructs, the story is based on the true story of Princeton historians who discovered an unknown general, who turned out to be George Washington's "secret agent." His actions were critical to the success of the Revolution but went unnoticed until several years ago because, as a secret agent, all paper trails either never existed or were so slightly documented that they remained undiscovered for more than 200 years. This agent's success came at a huge personal sacrifice. The only surviving proof that he even existed would be the letters discovered in a barn in the twentieth century.
