My fan fic "A Christmas Carol Reimagined" is the tale of a miserly middle aged man--a friend to no one--who is scared into realizing the folly of his ways when he is visited by three ghosts (past, present, and future). He then vows to be compassionate toward his fellow man and through his good deeds, he redeems himself--and he comes to know the meaning of love. My story here is my "mash up" of "A Christmas Carol" (original story by Charles Dickens) with Elizabeth Gaskell's "North & South", JRR Tolkien's (via Sir Peter Jackson's films of) "The Hobbit", and is set in the 1850's. In order to find out, she has to work with Harry Pearce and the team of Section D at MI-5, but Harry knows more than he is telling her. There are trust issues on both sides as she works with Lucas North on finding out who has been spying on her and her family. Several weeks have passed since Sir Guy of Gisborne and Lady Ada of Chetwood's dangerous adventure with the thugs who kidnapped them for ransom, disrupting their picnic. After being rescued by Ada's father, Lord William Earl of Chetwood, with the help of Robin Hood and Allan-A-Dale, Gisborne and Ada have started an amorous relationship, although in an unofficial way. In order to prevent gossip as much as possible, their meetings are discreet, occurring mostly in secret places in Sherwood or, more rarely, when Gisborne visits Chetwood Manor and stays overnight as a welcome guest. Today, they have a date in the forest, where they plan to spend a few sweet hours together. The chosen place is called the Cave of the Fairies, and legend has it that inside of it, the boundaries of the Fairy World and the normal world overlap, so much so that sometimes magical beings stumble into our world and vice-versa. Of course, neither Ada nor Guy believe these fables to be true...
