Michael Mell is in love with his best friend, Jeremy Heere. Of course, he'd never admit it. He'd do anything to keep himself from losing Jeremy, which is exactly what would happen if Jeremy knew. He knows he'd get left behind, just like at the Halloween party. Which is exactly why, when he realizes he has hanahaki disease, he keeps it a secret. He makes sure nobody asks about the blood he tends to cough up, or the gorse flowers and petals that come with the blood. He doesn't go to the doctor for help, or to anyone. There's a surgery he could get, but it would take away his emotions, and he'd rather die than have that happen. He'd rather let his love literally kill him.
