Hello I'm Jane Canary, this is the story of how I became Calamity Jane. My story begins when I was very young. This is fan fiction. I'm a big fan of suspense, thriller, and detective fiction. I have my favorite popular authors like Elmore Leonard who started writing in the Western genre. He did many books. His best known Western was"Hombre," which he wrote in 1961 and turned into a movie in 1967 starring Paul Newman. It wasn't later that he switched to his suspense drama, such as his novel "Get Shorty" written in 1990 and later a movie in 1995 starring John Travolta and Gene Hackman. My favorite Western is "Rifleman." Now I've never read it, I'll have to confess. But I've watched a lot of the episodes. It is amazing how well it stands up today after running from 1958-1963 on TV. It's different, but it's not corny. It reflects the culture of the time when westerns ran wild on TV. By the way this is totally PG. That's the way early TV was. I don't recall seeing an episode that used stereotypes of minorities, which is somewhat remarkable. And the acting and directing was just pretty darn good. So I like it. And now I am going to do my first fan fiction.

In the year 2057, the Atomic World War began. It started with the newly elected United States President getting assassinated and ended with the world in ash, destroyed by it's own inhabitants. All the humans that had survived, around 550,000, had been put into bunkers, where they stayed for the next 21 years. Once the nuclear winter the bombs had cause had lightened up, many bunkers began colonizing the Old World. Due to the still freezing temperatures, they were forced to construct complex domes around their cities, allowing them to grow their own food. But from the crumbled remains of the previous government rose a new one, more power hungry and dangerous than the last. The former vice president seized power and ran the Bubble City as a dictator, kidnapping lower level citizens and experimenting on them to create super soldiers. One of the first successful subjects escaped though, finding her way to a old, sad, man, living alone in the Old World. Will they be able to find peace together or will the vengeful government come for them both.

Ad Astra Per Aspera is the sequel to The Soldier of Stars. ----------- Waking up disoriented and inside a hospital, that has the dingy army issued light bulbs, the rough cots and the smell of despair is not how Hazel thought her new year would start, especially with the pulsing wound that lies in her side. Hazel Parker, severely injured and mentally unstable, lies in wait at a field hospital, as Easy Company continues to battle the tortures of the war. Catherine McCown, Elizabeth Elliot and Easy Company, are struggling, especially after the major losses of Bill Guanere and Joe Toye or others like Donald Hoobler and especially Skip Muck and Alex Penkala and most importantly, the tiny sniper Hazel Parker. Each loss pushed Easy into a darker time, a darker reality that they would ultimately have to face if they were to make the attack on Foy. They know the war is coming to a close soon, it has to be, but with the current loses and the shine of hope that is slowly dwindling, Easy barely stays afloat as they manage to fend off the town of Foy and proceed to Alsace, France.
