Soon, insha Allaah, the month of Muharram is coming upon us and we will begin another Hijri year. Just as the devout Muslim eagerly awaits any chance to earn good deeds and gain Allaah's Good Pleasure, and is careful not to transgress any boundaries, we should prepare ourselves for the coming of the month of Muharram. This is because Muharram is one of the four months that are SACRED in the eyes of Allah. "Verily, the number of months with Allaah is twelve (in a year): It was so ordained, by Allaah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them, four are sacred. That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein..." [al-Tawbah 9:36] These four months, according to the Prophet (pbuh) are Dhul-Qa'dah, Dhul-Hijjah, Muharram and Rajab. (Bukhaari)

Has this ever happened to you? You read a passage or two from a book, and you just can't stop yourself from finishing it.. You take one sip from a drink, and helplessly gulp down the whole glass.. You start reading Harry Potter, and you just have to read the whole series (bad example, but makes one understand the point easily). Why does that happen, by the way? One sip can convince you enough to drink a large glass of a certain drink. One passage, and you're ready to go through the whole book, regardless of its thickness. Quran For All - In Every Hand, In Every Heart "Falling in Love" By Amatullah Kareem I was a typical teenager and believed in everything my friends did. I grew up reading magical fairytales that always had a handsome prince falling in love with a princess and carrying her off into the sunset to live happily ever after. I watched Snow White and Cinderella that all focused on "falling in love" and "having a good life." And I too grew up believing this is what life is all about. This is why we are here - to find the perfect soul mate and live happily ever after. I was addicted to reading novels that told me an exciting, romantic life was the essence of our existence, that spoke of gorgeous women, enticing dashing men before they zoomed away in their private yacht to an exotic island.

Quran For All - In Every Hand, In Every Heart "The Eclipse" by Hira Hasan Eclipse- the darkness of the objects considered to be the brightest in our universe. The darkness that is not actually there, but is an effect of the alignment of the two bright objects which results in the object dependant on the fluorescent to become dull too. A paradox... an enigma... what it all seems. The beauties, the enrichment and the perfection is distorted not because of a confusion or a mistake, but because it was meant to be. The slow process of the moon/sun being shadowed casts fear in us with the same rate. Fear that is unknown and hidden, fear that has nothing to do with our personal beings... a fear truly unknown.

Quran For All - In Every Hand, In Every Heart. "Advice to the Youth...Now that Summer is Here." by Asma bint Shameem Whew! Summer is finally here and school is out for a whole two and a half months. No more books and backpacks, no more tests and tensions....its time to relax and enjoy! Surely, you worked hard during the year and you deserve a break. Surely, you want to unwind and enjoy yourself. That matter is understandable. Islam certainly allows for rest after hard work but under certain regulations. Hanzalah bin Aamir once complained to the Prophet (pbuh) that some of his time is intermingled with playing with his children and family. The Prophet (pbuh) answered him, "But there should be a time for this and a time for serious deeds." (Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim) But the question is....to what extent should you go in spending your summer vacation? What is the essence of vacation? Does it mean mere pastime, attending parties, and hanging out with your friends without direction or purpose? Does it mean twiddling your thumbs, idling away the hours? Or watching satellite channels and playing endless video games? Or letting the gaze wander free? And what are some of the positive things in which this summer can be spent? These are questions that every conscious Muslim who is concerned about his free time, his Aakhirah and the welfare of the youth should ask himself.

Quran For All - In Every Hand, In Every Heart. " All She Did Was Advice..." By Asma bint Shameem Fatima saw her sister's kids straying from the guidance of Allaah. She became very concerned. After all, those kids were like her own. She loved them dearly and wanted to save them from any sin they might fall into. Knowing that she will not have much control over the kids themselves, she decided to talk to her sister directly and advise her sincerely for the sake of Allaah about what she saw the kids doing. But, instead of appreciating Fatima's sincerity and understanding the motherly concern she had for her kids, her sister exploded. "Mind your own business!" she said. "This has nothing to do with you! Stop talking about my kids! Look at your own and what they are doing!" she shouted.

I want to share some really beautiful lines. Their beauty lies in their truthfulness. إن جميع مشاكل العالم البشري تعود إلى عدم طاعة الله ورسوله.. ولحل جميع هذه المشاكل يجب علينا تحكيم القرآن والسنة، وأخذ العلاج منهما وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ يُدْخِلْهُ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّ يُعَذِّبْهُ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا [الفتح: 17 Rough translation: "Indeed all the problems of the people of this world go back to the disobedience of Allah and His Prophet s.a.w. And for the solution of all these problems, it is incumbent upon us to establish the Quran and Sunnah as the final order (hakam). And take the cure from both of them."
