Riley Kido seems to have it all as a member of her high school's most popular crowd, but the truth is far from glamorous. Her popularity is merely a byproduct of her best friend Audrey Jacobs, Crestwood Collegiate's most popular and sought after girl. As a result, Riley has always felt like an outsider of the group, aware that her status is only upheld because of her association with Audrey. Luke Pelletier, captain of the varsity lacrosse team, charmingly handsome, and genuinely good guy, it's practically a must that he and Audrey should end up together. So, when Audrey surprisingly turns down Luke's invitation to the homecoming dance, proposing instead that he accompany her dateless friend Riley, it sends shockwaves through the social hierarchy. Since Luke is the nice guy that he is, he agrees to take Riley although, she'll forever be known as the girl that was chosen out of pity.
