Dennis Whitaker learned to read Michael Robinavitch before learning anything else at the Pit. He learned that his silence had different textures. That when I said I'm fine it was an armor, not an answer. Who carried the losses alone with the efficiency of those who had transformed it into a system. In a shift that starts like everyone else and doesn't end like this, Whitaker discovers that knowing enough about someone to really see them is one thing. Staying when this someone doesn't ask you to stay is another. He stays.
