The story is about a girl who lives in The Rocky Mountains of Colorado and dreams of the rock cycle there.
This story was written as an assignment for my college Earth Science class final project. It took me three days from the due date to have it completed. I initially had a different story that was being written when my teacher changed part of the assignment. The new assignment was to write about The Rocky Mountains. My teacher did keep the fact that it could be fictional but the story I was working on was too far to change. I had a week to research what I could and make it in to a story.
The sources I used were Google, two of my teacher's power point, and SobrietyStones (2010). And the image is also from Google.

This short story describes a rock's experiences from magma to metamorphic as it undergoes the rock cycle.
(I was required to creatively portray the rock cycle and include seventeen vocabulary words in a creative work of my choice for geology. Guess what I chose?)
This is a two-part Power of the Pen story. Power of the Pen is "an interscholastic tournament for young writers." The prompt that I used for the original story was: "The Gift Exchange: Use this practice as the central theme of your story." The prompt I used for the second part of the story was: "'The worst is yet to come.' Like what?"
I have been trod upon time and again, yet I said nothing. I have been cursed, destroyed, and hurt, yet never praised. Not once have I complained. I have borne it all with a heart of stone.
