But the Overtakers are aliens that enslave humanity in the worst ways imaginable: consumerism, reproduction, and acceptance of the status quo. And now, they are capable of interdimensional travel. After their failure to conquer one Earth in the year 1988, they attempt at another. Rick Sanchez and his grandson, Morty Smith, happen on their plot while visiting the Overtakers' targeted dimension: the amazing world of Elmore (home of Gumball and Darwin Watterson). Overcoming a rocky past relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Cara (the third regeneration of Neas), she and Rick work together to prevent the Overtakers' invasion of Elmore.
