Beyond the walls of tangled grapevines, outside the canopy of expansive and sheltering tree leaves-flat plains grew into the highest peaks. Yet, behind those very boundaries-and many like it-lay societies sheltered and oblivious, bound to themselves by both circumstance and matters outside their control. Hidden behind those very gates, Xevla lay ignorant and shielded. When blessed by what he could only call prophecy, he stepped beyond his life's box. Confronting a world of which he had no knowledge, he forced himself to seek both company and power-affection in those strange to him, and material gain in hidden artefacts. Unfortunately, no gifts come without a catch, nor do people without faults. Nothing is ever as it seems, especially oneself.

A/N: Its a one shot at Clary and Jace's emotional relationship turmoils... The storyline is different from the original one in regard with the characters. Here, Clary's mother is presented in an antagonistic light..so proceeding with the scene from city of fallen angels when Jace turns away from Clary when training in the rune park and after clary confronted with the harsh questions of the Seelie queen...^_^:

The longing for love and to be loved

"Accepting MADNESS in world that doesn't MAKE SENSE" 18th century England, during the Second Hundred Years' War, Elliot Montagne, 22, moved to England from France when he was 9 years old. A Frenchman by birth and a romantic at heart. He lives in the small English town of Linberh with his mother Lorraine, 38, and his sister Arletta, 18. His family being French makes them outcasts in the village but him being curious and cynical makes him an outcast in his own family. Itching to discover something fantastical and get out of the village, he hears rumors around town about a mountain about a week away on horse that makes any who go there mad. An old man living in the outskirts of the village had apparently gone to that mountain and came back. Despite protests against his meeting with him, he goes regardless and hears stories from the man about the mountain. Something about the place granting "true clarity" and upon hearing this he goes off in search of answers for the truth of life and civilization.
