Roots Stories

Barring global societal collapse, an anthology of competition entries for 2019's Smackdown should be growing here. Each story is based on a set of prompts by @LayethTheSmackDown Tuck in for a serving of space, tragedy, and possibly robots.

Born in the English countryside, Aalana's fate is all mapped out: she will take over the family store of her mother and grandmother. Known in all the region for being the owner of a magnificent pearl necklace of incomparable richness, the attractive young girl is envied by many. Yet, her life is completely turned upside down her sixteenth birthday when arrives a letter stating that she is in fact countess and promised to the nobles' world. Promising herself to unravel the mystery of her birth, she embarks in an adventure which will allow her to discover who she truly is.

Today I will start writing again I don't know where this is going, but I'm going to start channeling my thoughts into my writing and see what happens. This is for me.

The world as we know it.

A group of teens go into a forest called The Roots and bizarre stuff starts happening!!!!

A tender ballad echoing the folk rhythms of Eastern Uttar Pradesh-this poem carries the scent of mud walls, tulsi courtyards, and the warmth of ancestral homes. "My Old Village Home" is both song and lament: it remembers a time when homes were built with clay and love and mourns a present where towers rise but hearts feel hollow. A journey of memory, belonging, and the eternal search for what makes a house a true home.

We don't choose our family and they don't choose us, but we learn to go get along. Mostly. All it takes is one wrong ingredient to spoil a bake. All it takes is one wrong person to wreck a family. Forever. We all know the story of Skulduggery and Serpine, but what if there's more to the story that we never discovered.... until now obviously

"Letters of Connection: From Strangers to Family" follows Emily Turner, who, after discovering her birth records, exchanges heartfelt letters with her biological father, David Reynolds, a librarian living with his partner Sam and four cats. Through their correspondence, they forge a deep connection, ultimately deciding to meet in person to solidify their newfound bond and embark on a journey of belonging and love.
