As Shadow spends more time with Alinta, he realizes that they have more in common than he can count on his fingers. She even prefers coffee beans over coffee itself. After he accepts his feelings for her, Shadow asks Alinta on a date - only for her to reject him, adding that she lacks a desire to be in a romantic relationship. She does not want to give up her peace and solitude because of a love destined to fail because of her. When Sonic and the others learn of Shadow's rejection, they try changing Alinta's stance on romance. But the pressure backfires, leading to Alinta hating her temporary family.
