When officer Larry D. Kard arrives on the scene of the suicide in the local chapel, he's suspicious of foul play. The suicide note doesn't look like a suicide note, and the blood-spattered statue of St. Mortense disturbs him. Why wasn't it standing with the other saints? Is all the blood staining its surface the victim's, or is it crying blood? And who was St. Mortense, anyway?
