That was the initial story told to all members of the colony, even those told to generations that had never set foot on Earth or the Ark. With time, generations adjusted to the life of space and forgot why they even left. Of course, it wouldn't last long. Over the course of decades, people started growing tumors and cancers. Genetics took hold of the population in an unexpected twist, forcing a gradual decline. Overpopulation was now a concern for the government. The Earth was still uninhabitable, possibly guarded by whatever species had attacked the Arks. These are the events that led to the creation, and the collapse, of the Vanguard Objective. This is Ruination.
