Paris, 1789. France is starving, the monarchy is crumbling, and a revolution is beginning to consume the nation. Amidst the chaos lives Jacques, a young tailor's apprentice whose dreams of adventure seem distant from the harsh reality surrounding him.
But when injustice draws Jacques and his friends into the growing Revolution, fate leads him into a forgotten forest where he discovers an ancient book unlike anything he has ever seen. Unbeknownst to him, the book carries a curse, one that has waited centuries for a new bearer.
As Jacques is drawn deeper into the turmoil of Revolutionary France, strange encounters begin to follow him. A mysterious blind woman appears in the shadows. A girl named Charlotte becomes fascinated by the secrets surrounding the book. And beneath the bloodshed of the Revolution, something ancient begins to awaken.
When Jacques joins the revolutionary forces, he finds himself caught between battles, friendships, and a mystery far older than France itself. Yet the closer he comes to uncovering the truth, the more the curse begins to claim him.
Soon, Jacques must face a terrible question:
Was the book truly discovered by him... or was he chosen by it?
As France marches toward war and the fate of the Revolution hangs in the balance, Jacques will discover that some battles are fought for a nation-
and others for the fate of worlds.
