After an incident on her spatial trip, Siena Gianessi finds herself on Erid, sixteen light-years away from Earth. Not only does she discover a whole new planet but she also meets Doctor Captain Ryland Grace, the savior of humanity. She always imagined him tall and mysterious, not awkward and talkative. Waiting for her spaceship to get fixed, she has no other choice than to live with the only other human on Erid. And maybe it's not that bad.

Ryland Grace knew three things at this current moment. Hopefully that would improve. One: he was on a spaceship. Two: he did not know why. Three: the woman in the medical bay where he had woken up was alive, and for reasons his brain could not provide, that mattered more than everything else. *** I usually don't post my work, but I just wanted to try it out. The Hail Mary's radar detects a celestial body. An immense body, unmistakably different from an ordinary asteroid. Its size gives it away. The ship approaches it from the right. Too close. Grace doesn't want to waste fuel escaping its orbit, if they end up trapped. He assumes he is glimpsing the last planet of a solar system. But it's not. He feels his heart tighten in his chest, and a lump in his throat. He leans his body forward as far as the restraints allow, while gripping the sides of the chair with all the strength his tired muscles allow him to use. He gulps. The faint starlight reflects upon the blood. The thick, red liquid devours its glow with a voracious gaze. The surface of its crimson mantle watches the heavens in expectation, stirring - restless - before the presence of eternity. The void stretches infinite, inexorable, ineffable. It corrodes air, flesh, and iron.

Ryland Grace isn't the only alive human upon the spaceship Hail Mary. When the automated systems wake up a second crew capsule, Grace is forced to share his desperate, amnesiac survival mission with someone else. As their memories slowly piece back together, they must figure out how to work together, handle an alien encounter, and save two worlds-or die trying. Freya Collins didn't move five thousand miles for a love story.
