It's been a few years since Frisk died and freed the monsters. The monsters were taught how it felt to live with humans and all seemed well. But Sans didn't really care, because now that Frisk was dead, he didn't want to care about things anymore. He was the closest to Frisk, and her death hit him hard. Anytime anyone even mentioned Frisk he would either become depressed, or become angry and almost kill that person/monster. He never came out of his room, and only teleported to Grillbys from it. Every time he did however he came back drunk and crying. He would call out to Frisk sometimes and other times, almost destroy the house he and his brother were in. Every next door neighbor they had sold their houses for fear of him. One day however, someone moved into the house on the right of theirs. It seemed to be a young girl, and a kind one at that. She was helping the men move her furniture and such in the house. Sans however, only watching from the blinds that covered his window. He seemed almost curious about this, knowing that people almost never lived beside them but brushed his feelings aside. What he didn't know, was that that young, kind girl, would be the one to help him start caring again.
