They met on a random day at a café, the girl ask him if the other sit was taken, From that moment, conversations came easily. About dreams, fears, music, life. She laughed softly, not too loud, not too shy. She listened, really listened.
I never thought that I would love her deeply as I imagined.
But then, she was diagnosed... early-onset Alzheimer's.
"Kapag wala na akong maalala," she said softly,
"ayokong makita kang nasisira."
"Then I'll learn how to love you in a way that doesn't break me... even when you forget me."
"I'll still be here... even if you forget why I stayed."
"Hindi kita iiwan," Matthew insisted.
"Minsan, ang pagmamahal... marunong bumitaw."
No dramatic goodbye.
Just a hug.
"Thank you for loving me," she whispered.
And she walked away.
Years Later
I saw her at the park.
She was laughing.
Happy.
With no trace of recognition when she looked at me.
