Subrata Roy is an Indian businessman. He is the Managing Worker and Chairman of Sahara India Pariwar, an Indian conglomerate with diversified businesses and assets including Aamby Valley City, and India's largest land bank spread in cities across India. Subrata Roy founded the company in 1978.
Roy was featured among the "10 Most Powerful People of India" in 2012 by India Today. In 2004, Sahara group was termed by the Time magazine as 'the second largest employer in India' after Indian Railways. The group operates in more than 5,000 establishments spread across India and has a workforce of around 1.4 million under the Sahara India Pariwar umbrella.
Subrata Roy: Early life
He studied at The Holy Child School in Kolkata, later obtained a diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Government Technical Institute, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Sadly, before he could be employed, his father left for his heavenly abode. Initially, Subrata Roy did odd jobs to support the family. Amidst the difficulties, he started his first venture, 'Jaya Products', wherein he sold salted snacks on his Lambretta scooter.

Saharashri gathered an experience of three decades in business development, including 18 years in the real estate sector. Eventually, he started his entrepreneurial journey by opening Sahara Pariwar's first humble office in 1978 with three workers. They offered the services of para-banking and deposits.
