Ah, sirens and mermaids. The ying and the yang of the bottomless abyss that is the ocean. One, the top apex predator of the seas, the other, a fragile and magnificent creature created by the gods above. As for Octavia, well, she's a little of both- if she must admit. Between her desire to kill the many sailors she is sent after, a soft spot in her darkened heart may still be alive-for a certain sailor. ~ For Captain Cortez of the Black Maiden, it is more about dealing with the black soul of his dark-humored nephew. ~ Disclaimer: Sexual content and vulgar language may not be acceptable for younger audiences. And as you mutter your last prayer to the gods, know that this was their doing. The sea is theirs to rule and theirs alone. '. Jack Coolidge is fleeing life at sea, desperate for another existence, any other existence. But when war breaks out in Oldiron's distant territories, Jack finds himself propelled back into a deadly game of lies and hellish plots. Press-ganged into the King's Navy, Jack must decide where his true loyalties lie, and whether there is any escape for a man of his standing in a war of titans and rogues. Gwendalyn Ackers has fought her way to a position of power, high among the pirating elite in the New Age World, a position she would cling to until death. But after a mysterious child finds his way aboard her ship, things start to fall apart. She finds herself at the heart of deep-rooted conspiracy that would destroy the world she has created for herself and drag up a past she would much rather forget. As the lives of pirates, marauders and sailors become more and more entwined, it becomes clear that the only way to survive the war is to win in a fickle game to rule the seas.

"Siren Symphonia": This part of the title blends Latin and Greek, with "Siren" referring to the mythical creatures and "Symphonia" meaning "harmony" or "agreement" in Greek. Together, it suggests the enchanting songs of the sirens. "Aeternae Marins": This part incorporates Latin and French. "Aeternae" means "eternal" in Latin, and "Marins" is the French word for "sailors." Combined, it implies the enduring connection between the sirens' songs and the sailors they ensnare and feast on for eternity. -------------------- In a realm where the ocean's depths hold both beauty and peril, a timeless struggle unfolds between two ancient beings: the sirens and the mermaids. The sirens, with their mesmerizing beauty and honeyed voices, lure unsuspecting sailors to their doom, their songs echoing across the waves like a siren's call. But beneath the surface, they are creatures of darkness, their true forms hidden beneath a facade of allure. Contrastingly, the mermaids are known for their ugliness above the water, their raspy voices a stark contrast to the sirens' enchanting melodies. Yet, beneath the waves, they transform into beings of unparalleled beauty, their voices as sweet as sugar and their grace unmatched. For centuries, the sirens and the mermaids have clashed in a never-ending cycle, their battles fueled by their conflicting desires for the mortals who roam the ocean. The sirens seek to ensnare and destroy, while the mermaids strive to save and protect. And so the cycle continues, until one fateful day, when a chance encounter between a siren and a mermaid sets into motion events that will change the course of their eternal struggle forever. As the ocean churns with anticipation, the fate of sailors and creatures alike hangs in the balance, waiting to be decided by the outcome of this timeless conflict.

The tale of Persephone is well known throughout Greek Mythology, however, the real tale hidden beneath the myth of a Goddess stolen away from her mother is that of Alena Cali - the Cursed Siren. Forever cursed to lure sailors to their deaths with their beautiful voices, Alena is banished to live out her days on Cape Pelorum in servitude to the gods for the unpayable debt she earned in losing Demeter's daughter. Now powerless to the curse that causes her to drag innocent men to their watery graves, Alena sees no escape from her doomed existence. However, when the opportunity to save Persephone arises, she only has one option left: gain the help of a lone sailor to right her wrongs, or lose her friend to the clutches of the Underworld once and for all. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ **Cover made by @ShadowedRain** **Featured by the official Retold Wattpad page, on their "Rethology" reading list" **Winner of the "Ultimate Undiscovered" in the FCRA's 2016 ** **Highest Ranking #250 in Fantasy**

Catalina was the second born and only girl of a group of triplets. Her family wasn't very wealthy, but they didn't live in the slums either. She grew up being a rather sickly girl, having unexplained gain of weight and irregular periods. It was only until she became 15 when her family realized that their only daughter had a sickness that caused her to be infertile. Both her brothers, Agustín and Bernardo eventually leave the small house and become spice merchants and as soon as they are gone her family starts treating her badly and rejecting her; Catalina soon discovers that both her brothers were the ones convincing her family not to kick her out the house. After a year or so, of loneliness, reject, and little communication with her brothers, she receives the news that both, Agustín and Bernardo had been captured by Barnasy corsairs, and taken in as christian slaves for the Islamic market in North Africa. After studying for a while, Catalina decides to go off and search for her brothers, not listening to reason and avoiding the thought of both of them being dead. She escapes her home and begins to search for a crew to join.

Marion Simmons believed things should be the same. Between man and woman that is. So when she disguises herself to fulfill her dream of sailing, (which was forbidden for women), it results in some unseen consequences. This was originally a short story written for Young Authors, a writing competition that my school does. It received 1st place in the county. Young Authors only allows the entries to be shorter than 4,000 words, but I'm working on making it longer.
